When I was little..

I loved sitting up in Grant, MI on my grandma's porch and there would be so many different birds & insects, from butterflies to hummingbirds. But I would get to once in a great while see one of these and I thought they were the most beautiful. Northern Red Cardinal

Clavate Tortoise Beetle

I personally have not been the biggest fan of insects & beetles but I try my hardest to still mention them & I was researching when I came across this fascinating little guy. Its a clavate tortoise beetle tbeir 7 mm almost circular, slightly convex resembling flat turtlelike shell. Protonum and elytra transparent with brown patches near elytral edges. Their habitats are that of Fields and Wastelands. Their widespread from New England to South Carolina!
A fun little fact about these guys is that the clavate tortoise beetle whe threatened pulls in its antennae just as a turtle might withdraw its head and legs into its shell!

Find more info on Pg. 607 of the National Audibon Society Field Guide to North American Insects & Spiders.

Duck!

I personally think this duck called the Wood duck has the most Unique & eccentric coloring patterns and he literally looks like he's carved out of wood!
Reclusive and skittish so don't think you'll get close to one of these guys, they roost and feed in wooded swamps. Truely Beautiful!

Did you know that the leaves below the trillium flowers are the plant's only food source. As a result, if you pick this flower it may seriously injure and kill the trillium flower! If you see one please do not pick it, instead you could take a picture.
